Out of Despair
I can hardly write any more, knowing my grandchildren will experience global environmental, economic, and social meltdown.
I could cry, I'm so disappointed in Obama. Every day, he seems to step further backward into business-as-usual. How did we ever come to hope that one person could break free from the corporate dictatorship that "our" government has become?
But I will try. Reading, weeding my poor veggie garden, and sitting are just not enough.
On December 6, 1992, I heard that Hindu nationalists had destroyed the Babri mosque in Ayodhya, in Uttar Pradesh. I thought of all of Gandhi's work. For this to still be happening? And then suddenly I knew that we all still have to keep learning to practice, as well as promote, nonviolence. Because we simply cannot do otherwise.
I will try to keep remembering that moment of clarity and not give in to despair.
